Egans

My great great grandmother was Roseanne Egan. I believe she may have been born in Dublin in 1824 but have some circumstantial evidence that her family were in or from Gallen (Kings County) Offaly.

Rose married Thomas McEntyre in Dublin. Thomas’ parents James and Elizabeth Cummins married in 1818 in Banagher (near Gallen Offaly).

It appears that my McEntyres moved to Dublin around 1849 from Offaly due to the famine.

There is a big family of McEntyres in Gallen and a big family of Egans who appear to be living side by side and farming togther.

In Glasnevin cemetery in Dublin, Rose Egan was buried as she died of TB relatively young and in her grave was an Edward Egan 80 (Park street) who could be her father and a Hubert Egan who could be her brother.

In that plot owned by Edward are the following.
Elizabeth McEntyre died 13th June 1866 aged 82. Address shown as 18 Wood Street.
James McEntyre died 18th Nov 1856 aged 58 Address Wood Street
Rose McEntyre died 4th April 1865 aged 41 ( 2 Leinster Rd [should be 20 Leinster])
Edward Egan died 2 Nov 1852 aged 82 Park Street Rose’s father or grandfather?
Hubert Egan died 13th June 1854 aged 40 Ranelagh Rd Rose’s brother?

I found a birth certificate for Rose in Dublin with an Edward as father and I think it is her.

If you look on Griffith’s Valuation at the Gallen Offaly McEntyres and Egans you will see them all together. Even a Cummins for mother in-law Elizabeth.
