David Jones b1803 Stafford

Due to 100s of David Jones I’ve never been able to narrow it down. A few months ago a distant cousin gave me a hint that he had been arrested for highway robbery. In the lat few days I’ve managed to find a wealth of interesting facts.

This is my mother’s paternal great great grandfather.

more to come shortly…

Hi Peter

Apologies, I have just picked up your emails.

Our David Jones arrived on the America in 1829. You can access this record via my family tree on Ancestry. I cannot copy and paste from Ancestry but I do have the original printout I got from the State Library many years ago. I will scan and email it to you as soon as I get a chance.

He was granted a conditional pardon but remained living at Wollombi where I think he died in 1854. He married Jane Bailiff(e) in 1842 and had 3 children, William, Elizabeth and David. It appears that Jane died in 1856. The intriguing question is how David got to Tamworth. The children were aged between 13 and 8 when Jane died.

The name Bailiff(e) is carried forward in the family as a second name which is how I tracked David originally.

I intend to drive up to Wollombi to get a feel of the place and check out the cemetery although I do not expect to find the graves.
