Saturday October 18th

Today’s recovery ride after a hard work week, Wednesday gym and Thursday night training with the Apex team I was a little burnt out.

20km to Sekiyado into a head wind. Trying to keep my cadence above 100rpm. After warming up was not too hard to go at about 110rpm. There were many cyclists at the castle as usual. Beautiful day for riding. Cool wind, sunny and to keep my legs a little warm I wore my tights over my cycling shorts.

After a ten minute break I headed back home and saw Mr. Yamahiro doing his weekly Saturday morning TT. He is getting stronger and stronger every month.

Once I got home I went to Atago jinja to watch the annual Junior High School ekiden. My son ran last year and they came 5th. They came 5th again this year after being 2nd with 5km to go the last rider got reeled in.
A great result for a school that had a poor record until last year. There are normally about 75 schools running. The distance is about 25km and each runner does between 2 to 3km legs each.

All up a nice 46km and should be in fine form for tomorrow morning’s training (asaren).
Less than a month for my favorite Saiko race in Yamanashio near Mt. Fuji. I really want to perform well enough to get out of D class.

Heart Rate: 126/170
Speed: Average: 25. Max 43.1
Cadence: Average 89: Max 115

According to the Polar graph the averages dropped while I was watching the ekiden.

563km so far for October. 5900km for the year. Wish I had the time to double those figures. But, I’ve probably trained better this year since I started cycling, riding to work a bit more, joined the gym, lost a bit of weight, got a bit older.  Starting to wonder if my Trek is getting to old and worn or if that is just an excuse for wanting a new bike and for not getting any faster. Yes, a new bike would be nice…
