Wednesday Night Frostbite Sprint Training Session #1

We had snow last night followed by heavy rain then nice blue skies all day.
The roads were nice and dry by 9p.m just in time for my first sprint training session since our big crash.

I wanted to do an hour’s warm up, but by the time I played with the doggies, and got my bike ready I only had 10 minutes up my sleeve.

Three starters so we decided to take turns being the lead out man in the tunnel and then just sprint one on one. We did this for the first 5 laps until an extra person turned up and joined in. On the 4th lap I took my head warming ski balaclava and wind breaker off as I was quite warm by that stage. The next lap was my best attempt at a win but I still got pipped at the post by about 4cm and came in 2nd out of 4 on the 5th lap. After that I was losing too much body heat out the top of my head and my feet began to freeze. I took a one lap rest to put my warm gear back on.

Although it was freezing and I hadn’t done this kind of heavy training in a long time I could feel that my body was coping quite well and after two or three more weeks of this I’ll be back in good condition and ready to win a few of the sprints.

Here is last Saturday’s solo ride in a blistering headwind that made my nose freeze up and it became infected and kept me off the bike Sunday & Monday.

Luckily I have a few days off this month to get the average back up. This Monday is off and that will be the crucial day of getting it all under control.

After tonight’s ride I got in the shower to thaw out and my feet felt like they were on fire. The difference in temperature must have been too much and the brain couldn’t cope…probably thought I was standing on embers.

スタート時点で3人だったので、通常の10周スプリントではなく、
ペーサー(信号からトンネル中間まで40kphで)を
毎回交代しながら残り2人でスプリントする方式でスタート。

ペーサーをしっかりマークしながらトンネル中間からうしろ2人で
スプリント勝負。
これはペーサーはペーサーでいい練習になり、
2人のスプリントは当然高強度練。

人数が少ない時はこのパターンがいいかもしれません。

久しぶりにバクバクもがきました。

来週もまた逝きます。

しかし、今夜は半端じゃなく寒かった~~~~!!
