Who is George Mackins? Part two:

Breaking News…. stay tuned…

Follow up to Part one

The only information we had was on George Mackins junior that his father was George Mackins. This is where I’ve been looking for close to thirty years. Julia has also been a mystery. No wedding records could be found. No sign at all.
A few years back my second biggest match on Gedmatch was to a Mr. Rankine. We couldn’t work out how we were related. He is in South Australia. None of my ancestors were ever there. He couldn’t see any relation to my geography either. A year or so ago a researcher on my father’s cousin’s side was working on the line as well and also not finding much but she found something. I believed there must be a spelling mistake. I found a George Makin in Goulburn and we think this is George junior. We then found records of Julia in Goulburn. Sometimes in Goulburn gaol. I never followed up on those as there was not much I could fathom. My cousin’s researcher told me she has some clues but no evidence but had been looking at a George Rankin. I didn’t follow up on this for a year or so until last week.
Still we have no clear evidence but there is paperwork linking Mr. Rankin to Julia. And my DNA to the Rankin man in South Australia. Pretty sure it’s him now.

So, now the findings have opened a can of worms and I have to tread lightly as it’s all a bit surreal. Especially the heritage of Isabella McDonnell. More to come on her in the next post. Will add in more details below soon.
